Call for Papers
Since the emergence of breakthrough AI technologies like ChatGPT in November 2022, journalists have been at the forefront of utilising these innovations in their work. Deep learning technology, coupled with the exponential growth in computing power, has unlocked unprecedented possibilities in journalism. From analysing vast amounts of online and social media data to combating fake news and even monitoring environmental changes through satellite imagery, AI has undeniably reshaped the industry.
Simultaneously, AI’s influence extends to the realm of journalism education, presenting both opportunities and challenges. Educators and students must navigate its ethical boundaries and implications, while also harnessing its potential to enhance learning experiences.
We invite researchers to contribute original insights and perspectives on AI’s role in journalism education. Topics of interest may include, but are not limited to:
- Integrating AI into journalism curriculum: Innovative approaches and case studies.
- Impact of AI on journalism skills and employment
- Preparing students for AI’s role in changing news consumption

About the Pre-conference
The pre-conference, held at Hotel Caledonien in Kristiansand, Norway, offers a platform exclusively for authors of anthology chapters and invited guests. It serves as a forum for in-depth discussions and networking opportunities. Participants will actively engage in chapter presentations and keynotes, delving into the latest research and insights at the intersection of AI and journalism education.
You are welcome to suggest a chapter idea without participating in the pre-conference.

- April 30: Deadline abstract submission
- May 20: Notification of acceptance, registration for pre-conference opens
- August 15: Registration for pre-conference closes
- October 9: Pre-conference with paper presentations
- March 1, 2025: Deadline final draft for peer review
